Making moves? Beautiful Ballarat should be on your list.

28/07/2020

If you’re ready for a sea change, it might just be time to move to the country. Ballarat has been named one of regional Australia’s most desirable places to live, and it’s not hard to see why.

Brimming with goldfield history and local charm, Ballarat has proven itself to be more than just a pretty country town for weekend getaways and school excursions. According to a recent report from the Regional Australia Institute (and the locals!), Ballarat is one of the most desirable places to live in regional Australia.

The report looks at population trends countrywide and explores where various demographics are shifting—and why. The report’s key finding shows that regional Australia gained more people than it lost to capital cities during the last Census, with Ballarat identified as a top destination for millennials.

So, why are young families moving to Ballarat?

Ballarat has been quietly blossoming as a cultural destination for a while now, with its art galleries, historical architecture and natural beauty of the country unfolding amidst award-winning wineries and a vibrant culinary scene. But there’s more to this vibrant country city than great food and wine.

Top tier healthcare

Ballarat has a vast array of cutting edge healthcare services available, including a bigger and better base hospital currently underway. The new hospital will upgrade operating theatres and the ability to treat an additional 14,500 inpatients each year. Expected to be completed by 2026. A wide range of specialist and aged care can be found throughout the greater Ballarat region.

Job opportunities

With an expected population boost of around 20 per cent during the next decade comes an array of job opportunities ready to support this growth. The hospital redevelopment project alone will create 1,000 additional jobs, and the City of Ballarat is consistently adding to its workforce to support the growing community needs.

And thanks to a boon in working from home situations, many younger couples love the opportunity to work remotely while still enjoying easy access to the Melbourne CBD—it’s only an hour-and-a-half drive or train ride away from Ballarat Station
